Constructed in 1885 by Kestel and Burge, this is an outstanding bank building that has survived intact from the boom period of the 1880s. It is believed that the Bank of Adelaide was temporarily housed next door at 116 Lipson Street (now G.G. McLachlan & Co) prior to completion of these premises.

During the 1980s the former Bank of Adelaide building housed the popular Lipson House Restaurant, and later La Banca Restaurant. Today (2005) it is a private dwelling.
